Gemtek launches 1.6T PIC transceiver

News

New module integrates laser-enabled silicon photonics PIC to support high-volume 200G/lane optical connectivity.

Gemtek Technology Co. Ltd. has announced the AiPhoton 1.6T OSFP transceiver, developed with NewPhotonics Ltd., targeting hyperscale AI data centre interconnect applications.

The module is built around the NPG10204 DR8 photonic integrated circuit (PIC), featuring an integrated laser and modulator designed to support 200G-per-lane PAM4 transmission.

The design aims to simplify manufacturing by reducing optical assembly complexity and improving scalability for high-volume production.

Gemtek said the platform addresses growing demand for 1.6T-class optical connectivity driven by AI workloads and data centre scale-out requirements.

The flip-chip PIC architecture is intended to improve yield, reliability, and signal integrity while lowering power consumption.

NewPhotonics said the integration of its laser-enabled PIC with Gemtek’s manufacturing capability enables a scalable approach to next-generation silicon photonics-based transceivers for AI infrastructure.
