Marvell to acquire Polariton Technologies

News

Deal strengthens plasmonics and silicon photonics capabilities for next-generation 3.2T optical interconnects.

Marvell Technology Inc. has announced the acquisition of Polariton Technologies, a move aimed at strengthening its position in advanced silicon photonics and high-speed optical interconnects for data centre and AI infrastructure applications.

The acquisition brings plasmonics-based device technology into Marvell’s optical portfolio, enabling higher-density modulation and improved energy efficiency for next-generation optical links.

The company said the development is intended to support scaling beyond 3.2T-class connectivity as demand for bandwidth continues to accelerate across AI-driven workloads.

Marvell highlighted that current data centre architectures are rapidly transitioning beyond 1.6T optical connectivity, requiring continued innovation at the device level to meet performance and power constraints.

Plasmonic technology is expected to contribute to ultra-compact modulators and reduced energy per bit in future optical systems.

According to Marvell, the integration of Polariton Technologies will complement its existing capabilities in silicon photonics, digital signal processing, and switching platforms, supporting more tightly integrated and scalable optical solutions for hyperscale data centres.

The company said the acquisition reinforces its commitment to advancing optical technology roadmaps as industry demand shifts toward higher-speed, lower-power interconnect architectures driven by artificial intelligence and cloud computing expansion.
