VLC Photonics expands in US with Hitachi High-Tech

News

Move strengthens PIC design and testing ecosystem in the US, targeting growth across datacom, AI, and sensing applications

VLC Photonics has announced a strategic collaboration with Hitachi High-Tech America (HTA) to expand its presence in North America, reinforcing its position in the global photonic integrated circuits (PIC) ecosystem.

As part of the move, VLC Photonics has transferred Alberto Hinojosa to HTA’s Santa Clara office, where he will serve as a US-based business development manager.

The relocation is aimed at strengthening customer engagement and accelerating the adoption of integrated photonics technologies across the region.

The collaboration reflects growing demand for advanced photonic solutions in North America, particularly in high-growth sectors such as data communications, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and sensing.

By establishing a local presence, VLC Photonics aims to provide closer support to customers while scaling its design and testing services.

Iñigo Artundo, CEO of VLC Photonics, said the move represents a strategic bridge between European photonics expertise and North American innovation, enabling deeper collaboration across key markets.

The partnership is further supported by VLC Photonics’ integration into the Hitachi High-Tech Group, enhancing the combined ability to deliver high-value photonics solutions globally.

Hitachi High-Tech America’s commercial reach, combined with VLC’s engineering capabilities, is expected to accelerate the development and deployment of PIC-based technologies.

Together, the companies aim to strengthen the photonics innovation ecosystem by offering end-to-end support for customers developing next-generation optical systems.
