Marvell and Tower pass 5M PIC milestone
Marvell and Tower Semiconductor have shipped more than five million coherent photonic integrated circuits, underscoring the growing role of silicon photonics in AI-driven data center networks.
Marvell Technology and Tower Semiconductor have announced the shipment of more than five million coherent photonic integrated circuits (PICs), marking a significant milestone for silicon photonics deployment in high-speed optical networking.
The coherent PICs are being supplied to Marvell customers worldwide and are designed to support the increasing bandwidth and energy-efficiency demands of AI-driven data center interconnect (DCI) infrastructure.
The companies said the milestone reflects growing adoption of coherent optical technologies, which enable advanced optical transceivers to transmit data over long distances while maintaining high performance and low power consumption.
Tower also highlighted ongoing collaboration with Marvell on next-generation silicon photonics technologies, including the integration of non-silicon materials, 3D electronic integration and advanced optical packaging capabilities.
As AI workloads continue to drive demand for faster and more efficient networking solutions, coherent photonic integrated circuits are becoming an increasingly important component of modern data center architectures.
