Q/C Technologies partners with Sandia
Q/C Technologies has announced a research collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories’ Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) to advance its optical processing unit (OPU) initiative for AI inference.
The collaboration will focus on nanophotonic components and the fundamental building blocks required for scalable optical AI processing. The research will identify and evaluate optical operations and device technologies for Q/C’s OPU architecture.
Key areas of investigation will include nonlinear optical operations, memory, computational precision, optical loss and the integration of photonic technologies with electronic systems.
Q/C Technologies is developing optical computing solutions that use light and optical interference to perform computational operations. The company said the collaboration with CINT will help establish a development roadmap for its OPU architecture as it works towards a practical and scalable optical computing platform.
The collaboration follows Q/C Technologies’ establishment of an integrated photonics laboratory in San Francisco, which the company is using to support development of its optical computing technology.
