Semtech advances 50G fronthaul
Production-ready optical solutions target 5G-Advanced fronthaul and future 6G networks.
Semtech has announced full production availability of its 50G optical transport portfolio, targeting the next generation of 5G-Advanced radio deployments and supporting the industry's transition to higher-speed mobile fronthaul.
The portfolio is designed to address increasing uplink traffic driven by AI applications, augmented reality and generative AI, which are placing greater demands on mobile network infrastructure.
Semtech's solutions support several fronthaul architectures, including 10 km duplex links using its GN2255 CDR with the GN1700TI TIA, 15 km bidirectional links using the GN2255S CDR and GN1700TI TIA, and WDM and longer-reach applications using the GN2256 CDR with the GN1700TI TIA.
The devices are based on Semtech's ClearEdge, Tri-Edge and FiberEdge product families and are now shipping in volume. The company said the portfolio is designed to support current 50G fronthaul deployments while providing a path toward 6G networks.
The move reflects growing industry adoption of 50G optical interfaces for next-generation radio architectures, with module manufacturers and system vendors working to support higher-capacity fronthaul as mobile traffic patterns evolve.
Semtech will showcase its 50G optical solutions at ECOC 2026 in Málaga, Spain.
