Marvell unveils 2nm optical technologies
New demonstrations target higher-bandwidth, lower-power connectivity for AI data centre infrastructure.
Marvell has announced a series of 2nm optical interconnect demonstrations at ECOC 2026 in Málaga, Spain, targeting the growing connectivity requirements of AI data centres.
The company is demonstrating what it describes as the first 2nm 400G-per-lane optical PAM4 technology, alongside an 800G ZR/ZR+ pluggable incorporating MACsec, and 1.6T ZR and O-band coherent-lite technologies.
Marvell said the technologies are designed to increase bandwidth density and reduce power consumption as AI infrastructure moves towards higher-speed interconnects between XPUs, CPUs, accelerators and memory resources.
The 400G-per-lane optical PAM4 demonstration is aimed at supporting the transition towards 3.2T data centre connectivity. The 800G ZR/ZR+ solution is based on Marvell's 2nm Libra coherent DSP and combines long-reach optical transmission with integrated MACsec security.
The company is also demonstrating 1.6T ZR and coherent-lite technologies based on next-generation 2nm DSPs, targeting high-bandwidth connectivity within and between data centres.
Alongside its optical technologies, Marvell is showcasing its 102.4 Tbps co-packaged optics (CPO) platform, which integrates optics directly with AI accelerator and switch silicon. The platform uses 200G-per-lane silicon photonics and is designed to address bandwidth density and power requirements in large-scale AI fabrics.
“AI data centre operators need optical interconnect technologies that deliver higher bandwidth, lower power and greater security across every part of the network,” said Xi Wang, senior vice president and general manager of Marvell's Connectivity Business Unit.
Marvell is exhibiting the technologies at ECOC 2026, Booth 2002, alongside demonstrations spanning 224G SerDes, 1.6T optics, coherent interconnects and optical memory fabrics.
