Luminate awards photonics startups
Luminate NY has awarded more than $2 million to optics, photonics and imaging startups, including companies developing chip-scale and advanced laser technologies.
Gekko Photonics received the $1 million Company of the Year investment, supporting its expansion into Rochester, New York, where it plans to manufacture photonic systems and support US customers.
Among the other winners, Brightlight Photonics received $250,000 to develop chip-scale titanium lasers for quantum technology applications, while AB Photonics was awarded $400,000 for its platform for integrating handheld, mode-locked pulsed lasers into commercial products.
The awards form part of the ninth round of the Luminate NY accelerator, which supports emerging deep-tech companies developing technologies enabled by optics, photonics, imaging and lasers.
