Coherent expands C-band POLS
New QSFP-based system supports high-capacity optical links for AI data centre networks.
Coherent has expanded its Pluggable Optical Line System (POLS) portfolio with a full C-band, high-power variable-gain amplifier in a compact QSFP form factor.
Designed for 800G ZR and ZR+ coherent optics, the system supports up to 32 DWDM wavelengths over a single fibre pair, providing up to 25.6Tbps of capacity across links ranging from 2km to 200km.
The POLS integrates optical transport functions directly into QSFP modules, with Coherent’s miniature optical components including dual-chip micropump lasers. The system provides up to 21dBm output power, variable gain and autonomous plug-and-play operation.
Coherent has also integrated auto-provisioning for link configuration and laser safety, alongside fixed-wavelength and colourless MUX/DMUX options. Versions supporting 400G and 800G ZR/ZR+ applications are available with SFF-8636 or CMIS 4.0 memory maps.
The enhanced POLS is now shipping in volume and is being targeted at cloud, internet service provider and AI infrastructure networks.
