POET unveils 1.6T hybrid transmitter PIC
POET Technologies has announced its Hybrid Integrated 1.6T 2xFR4 Transmitter Photonic Integrated Circuit, a new optical engine designed to support the rising bandwidth demands of AI workloads, hyperscale data centres and cloud networking.
Built on the company’s Optical Interposer platform, the transmitter combines photonic and electronic components within a single chip-scale package to improve performance while simplifying manufacturing.
The device delivers 1.6 Tbps of total capacity using eight high-speed PAM4 lanes and supports transmission distances of up to 2 km over duplex single-mode fibre. By removing the need for active optical alignment and traditional wire bonding, the design reduces signal loss, improves RF integrity and enables more scalable, automated production.
POET says the hybrid architecture positions the technology for future upgrades to 3.2T optical modules as operators transition from 800G networks to next-generation optical infrastructure.
