GX Group unveils €49M quantum photonics venture in India with SMART Photonics

News

GX Group has launched GX Quantum Photonics, a new initiative aimed at developing advanced photonic chips and modules in India. The venture begins with an investment of ₹500 crore (around €49 million), supported by Invest International and backed by a strategic collaboration with SMART Photonics, the Netherlands-based InP PIC foundry.

The partnership will focus on photonic solutions for next-generation broadband, 5G/6G networks and quantum communication, strengthening supply chain diversification and advancing India’s ambitions in semiconductor and photonic technologies.

SMART Photonics CEO Johan Feenstra said the collaboration brings together global photonics expertise and India’s drive for technological sovereignty, setting “new benchmarks in optical innovation and high-performance, energy-efficient data infrastructure.”

The initiative marks a significant expansion of India’s presence in the global PIC ecosystem.
