Mixx acquires Sophic Silicon

Mixx Technologies has acquired Sophic Silicon Technologies and partnered with Kaynes Semicon to strengthen the design and manufacturing of co-packaged optics for AI infrastructure.

Mixx Technologies has acquired semiconductor IP company Sophic Silicon Technologies and announced a manufacturing collaboration with Kaynes Semicon, expanding its capabilities in co-packaged optics (CPO) for AI infrastructure.

The acquisition brings Sophic Silicon's analog mixed-signal design expertise and IP into Mixx's organisation, strengthening the electronic-photonic foundation of its HBxIO™ platform.

The platform is designed to address the growing bandwidth and power challenges in hyperscale AI data centres by integrating photonic engines alongside AI accelerators.

Sophic Silicon, based in Bengaluru, India specialises in analog mixed-signal, wireless and photonics IC design.

Its technology focuses on the electro-optic interfaces required for next-generation optical interconnects, enabling higher bandwidth and lower power consumption in large-scale AI systems.

The company's engineering team will join Mixx's product development organisation and continue expanding research and development operations in India.

Alongside the acquisition, Mixx has entered a multi-year collaboration with Indian OSAT provider Kaynes Semicon to establish optical IC assembly and test capabilities supporting the HBxIO platform.

The partnership aims to create a domestic manufacturing pathway for advanced optical integrated circuits, enabling closer integration between chip design, packaging and production.

According to Mixx, the combined initiatives strengthen India's role in the global silicon photonics ecosystem by bringing together photonic IC design, advanced semiconductor packaging and manufacturing within a single development framework.

The company said it is continuing to work with cloud service providers to qualify its co-packaged optics platform for large-scale AI training and inference deployments while expanding its photonics R&D activities in Bengaluru.
