EnSilica boosts photonics expansion
EnSilica has announced plans to raise up to £15 million to accelerate growth across satellite communications and photonics, including opportunities linked to next-generation AI data centre infrastructure.
Fabless semiconductor company EnSilica has announced plans to raise up to £15 million to support growth across its satellite communications and photonics businesses.
The fundraising, comprising a placing, subscription and retail offer, will provide capital to expand engineering capacity, support new customer programmes and accelerate development activities in high-growth markets.
EnSilica said the investment will help advance its SatCom application-specific standard product (ASSP) roadmap, increase satellite payload and positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) engineering capability, expand photonics opportunities and provide manufacturing working capital.
The company is also targeting growth in the photonic integrated circuit (PIC) sector, where optical technologies are increasingly being adopted to address the bandwidth and power demands of artificial intelligence (AI) data centres.
EnSilica highlighted its data-centre photonics controller ASIC development programme with Oriole Networks as part of its expanding activity in this market.
Photonic technologies are gaining momentum in AI infrastructure due to their ability to deliver higher bandwidth and lower power consumption compared with conventional electronic interconnects.
Ian Lankshear, CEO of EnSilica, said the company has seen strong demand from customers in the space and photonics sectors and that the funding will enable it to pursue new opportunities and support ongoing growth.
The announcement follows EnSilica’s recent business update, in which the company reported increased contract activity and a growing pipeline of opportunities across its target markets.
