FormFactor acquires Keystone Photonics to strengthen silicon photonics testing

News

FormFactor, Inc. has announced the acquisition of Keystone Photonics, expanding its capabilities in optical probing and wafer-level testing for silicon photonics (SiPh) and co-packaged optics (CPO).

The move strengthens FormFactor’s position in advanced semiconductor test and measurement as demand accelerates from AI-driven data centres and high-performance computing.

Keystone Photonics is known for its optical probing technologies that address one of the key challenges in silicon photonics manufacturing: accurate, high-speed wafer-level optical testing.

By integrating Keystone’s optical coupling expertise with FormFactor’s automated probing platforms, the combined offering aims to deliver higher data accuracy and throughput as SiPh devices transition from R&D to high-volume production.

The acquisition comes as the silicon photonics market is projected to grow at close to 30% annually, driven by the need for faster data transmission and lower power consumption in next-generation computing infrastructure.

FormFactor’s “lab-to-fab” approach positions the company to support manufacturers scaling SiPh and CPO technologies into production-ready processes.

FormFactor President and CEO Mike Slessor said the acquisition will help accelerate the industry’s ramp to high-volume SiPh and CPO manufacturing, while Keystone Photonics CEO Philipp Dietrich highlighted the opportunity to unlock the next phase of growth in optical test and measurement by joining a global wafer test leader.
