Fermioniq, QuiX Quantum, and Deltares partner on quantum for water infrastructure
The Netherlands-based companies plan to combine their expertise in quantum software, photonic quantum computing hardware, and applied research, to harness the power of quantum modelling to improve real-world water management
Fermioniq, QuiX Quantum, and Deltares have announced a partnership aiming to discover quantum modelling solutions that will improve water management and infrastructure. The organisations say they are each uniquely positioned with complementary expertise on the topic of quantum improvements for hydro simulations.
Fermioniq is a specialised quantum and quantum-inspired software company, aims to leverage its experience in quantum solutions and transitioning them to full quantum capabilities.
QuiX Quantum, a photonic quantum computing company and full-stack quantum hardware developer, plans to contribute its quantum computing technology to support and test quantum algorithms for hydrodynamics simulations.
Deltares, an independent institute for applied research in the field of water and subsurface with smart solutions, innovations, and applications for people, environment and society, will provide domain expertise and ensure real-world applicability.
Together, the companies are aiming to deliver quantum solutions for water modelling, demonstrating the potential for quantum computing to surpass classical methods in speed, scale, and precision. This initiative will explore new frontiers in hydrodynamic simulations, the companies add, paving the way for enhanced water management strategies in the Netherlands and beyond.
“Quantum solutions have immense potential for enabling large-scale hydrodynamic simulations,” said Chris Cade, chief product officer at Fermioniq. “By leveraging quantum-inspired techniques, we can begin realising value today and create technology roadmaps as we anticipate advancements in hardware.”
Jelmer Renema, chief scientist at QuiX Quantum, commented: “This milestone brings us closer to real-world applications where quantum technology can revolutionise critical sectors like water management. We are thrilled to showcase the power of quantum techniques in solving pressing global challenges.”
Wim van Balen, technical manager at Deltares, added: “We are really looking forward to exploring this new technology. After decades of experience developing hydrodynamic software on traditional hardware, we are excited to delve into the possibilities of quantum hardware together with these two partners.”
