Vexlum expands UK quantum presence

News

The company has established its first UK R&D operation and appointed Dr. Stefan Truppe to lead its growing quantum technology activities.

Vexlum has expanded its European footprint with the appointment of Dr. Stefan Truppe as Managing Director of Vexlum UK and the establishment of its first UK research and development laboratory in London.

The new facility will support laser development, testing and technical validation for UK customers while enabling collaborative R&D with partners across the country's growing quantum technology ecosystem.

The expansion follows increasing demand for Vexlum's high-power semiconductor Vertical-External-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VECSEL) systems, which are used in neutral-atom and trapped-ion quantum computing research.

The London operation combines engineering, research and commercial activities, allowing Vexlum to provide local technical support while contributing to the UK's quantum technology supply chain.

Dr. Truppe joins Vexlum from Imperial College London, where he will continue to serve as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics. He will lead the company's UK growth strategy and industrial partnerships.

Vexlum said the expansion strengthens its position in the UK quantum market while supporting applications beyond quantum computing, including semiconductor metrology and space communications.
