Constructor Capital closes $110m Fund I to back science-first startups from lab to market

News

Constructor Capital has closed its first fund at $110 million to support early-stage, research-intensive startups across DeepTech, software, and EdTech.

The fund will invest at Seed and Series A, targeting founders translating advanced scientific research into scalable commercial businesses.

The Swiss-based firm applies a science-first investment approach, combining capital with deep technical validation and academic support.

Constructor Capital draws on a global network of more than 50 universities, including Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, ETH Zurich, and the National University of Singapore, enabling it to assess and back highly complex technologies often overlooked by traditional venture capital.

Within DeepTech, the fund focuses on next-generation computing architectures such as quantum and photonic systems.

These technologies are positioned to enable advanced optimisation, large-scale simulation, and more energy-efficient computation for AI and data-intensive applications.

“Research labs within universities are developing technologies that will shape the 21st century, yet many remain neglected by the VC ecosystem,” said Matthias Winter, Managing Partner at Constructor Capital. “We aim to close the gap between scientific excellence and venture capital by supporting companies as they move from lab to market.”

Constructor Capital plans to lead and co-lead investments ranging from $1 million to $10 million, with select deals up to $15 million and additional capital reserved for follow-on rounds. The fund invests globally, with activity across Europe, the United States, the UAE, and Singapore.

The portfolio already includes science-led companies such as QuEra Computing, a neutral-atom quantum computing company, and Lumai, which develops 3D optical computing architectures designed to reduce the cost and energy consumption of AI inference.

Other investments include AI infrastructure provider GCore, ERP platform Osome, and augmented reality company VitreaLab.

Constructor Capital was founded by physicist and entrepreneur Serg Bell and operates within the wider Constructor Group ecosystem, which includes Constructor University, research laboratories, and applied innovation platforms.

The fund is backed by private investors, including technology entrepreneurs, family offices, and investment vehicles, with capital deployment already underway.
