Alcyon and Luceda team up to boost PIC design reliability
Alcyon Photonics and Luceda Photonics have joined forces to improve photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design reliability with the release of their joint white paper, “Validated Designs for Reliable Photonic Integrated Circuits – Bridging Simulation to Reality.”
As PICs gain traction in datacom, telecom, and quantum computing, achieving high-volume manufacturing yield remains a major challenge. Minor process variations, such as waveguide roughness or dimensional deviations, can significantly affect performance.
The study shows how combining Alcyon’s process-validated passive component library, developed for Tower Semiconductor’s PH18 silicon photonics platform, with Luceda’s spatially correlated variation simulation tools enables designers to predict yield and optimise performance before tape-out. This approach reduces development cycles and accelerates time-to-market for next-generation optical interconnects.
“This collaboration bridges the gap between simulation and fabrication, providing a clear path to high-yield PIC development,” said Enrique Frutos, CTO at Alcyon Photonics.
The partnership highlights the value of integrating process-aware design IP, advanced simulation, and mature manufacturing platforms to deliver scalable, manufacturable PIC solutions.
