Flexcompute launches PhotonForge 2.0
The platform automates photonic integrated circuit design from schematic to tapeout, with AI agent integration and links to physics simulation tools.
Flexcompute has released PhotonForge 2.0, an end-to-end design automation platform for photonic integrated circuits (PICs), enabling engineers and AI agents to collaborate across design, simulation and verification workflows.
The platform supports schematic design, layout, circuit simulation, design rule checking (DRC) and layout-versus-schematic (LVS) verification.
It integrates with Flexcompute’s Tidy3D multiphysics solvers to model optical, thermal, electrical and radio-frequency behaviour.
PhotonForge 2.0 supports AI agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and a Python API, allowing automated chip placement, routing, rule checking and simulation.
Its free Community edition offers unlimited seats for research and commercial use, while the Enterprise edition adds foundry process design kit (PDK) integration, electronic design automation (EDA) connectors and design traceability.
The launch comes amid growing demand for photonic technologies in AI data centres, where near-packaged and co-packaged optics are being developed to address increasing bandwidth requirements.
By streamlining PIC design and verification, the platform aims to support the development of photonic chips for emerging optical interconnect applications.
PhotonForge 2.0 Community is available through PyPI, with enterprise capabilities targeting organisations requiring integration with existing design workflows and foundry processes.
