Wiwynn, Ayar Labs and GUC demonstrate CPO

News

Live demonstration at OCP Global Summit 2026 showcases optical engine telemetry and system-level integration for AI infrastructure.

Wiwynn, Ayar Labs and Global Unichip Corp. (GUC) have demonstrated a co-packaged optics (CPO) system integrating optical engines with a compute platform, marking progress towards deployment in AI data centres.

Shown at OCP Global Summit 2026 in San Jose, California, the system combines GUC’s multi-chip packages (MCPs) with Ayar Labs’ TeraPHY optical engines and SuperNova external light source, integrated into a Wiwynn compute system designed for Open Rack V3 (ORV3).

The demonstration features real-time telemetry from the optical engines, providing system health information while monitoring optical link performance.

The companies reported that key signal quality metrics, including eye height, optical modulation amplitude (OMA) and extinction ratio (ER), remained stable as the tuning subsystem tracked thermal and wavelength drift.

The system also demonstrates an external laser light source using an ELSFP-based form factor, detachable fibre attach units (FAUs) and in-chassis fibre routing, addressing serviceability and manufacturability at platform level.

The collaboration builds on previous work on rack-level CPO architecture, progressing towards functional validation within a compute system.

The companies said the integration provides greater visibility into optical subsystem performance and supports the development of CPO systems that can be operated and managed at scale.

Wiwynn, Ayar Labs and GUC plan to continue working together to advance optical-electrical integration for high-bandwidth, power-efficient AI infrastructure.
