Trumpf Photonic Components welcomes new MD

News

Thomas Dobbertin to succeed Berthold Schmidt, who will become CTO

Trumpf subsidiary Trumpf Photonic Components will have a new managing director as of July 17, 2023. 48-year-old Thomas Dobbertin will take over the role from Berthold Schmidt, who will serve as CTO and member of the managing board for Trumpf SE + Co. KG in the future.

Previously, Dobbertin, PhD Electrical Engineering, served as general manager for the optical sensor technology business units at semiconductor manufacturer Ams AG in Singapore and was responsible for the laser components business at Osram Opto Semiconductor in Germany. Most recently, Dobbertin worked for Nanofilm Technology International, a Singapore-based provider of nanotechnology solutions.

In his new role as MD of Trumpf Photonic Components, Thomas Dobbertin is expected to further expand the VCSEL and photonics business and the technological know-how of this Trumpf subsidiary.

Trumpf Photonic Components has been part of the Trumpf Group since 2019 and is a global supplier of VCSEL and photodiode solutions for consumer electronics, data communications, automotive, industrial sensors and heating systems. The company employs around 300 people worldwide at its headquarters in Ulm and at locations in Aachen, the Netherlands, China, Korea, Taiwan and the USA.
