Synopsys OptoDesigner Updates Simplify PIC Design

News

Synopsys is defining a new era of photonic circuit design with unified flow and custom process design kit (PDK) support through its PIC Design Suite, which comprises the OptSim Circuit and OptoDesigner tools that support a wide range of application requirements from data communications to sensors and biomedical devices. The suite offers a seamless PIC design flow from system-level design and verification through PIC design capture, layout, verification and manufacturing, as well as access to a single, world-class support channel. Over the last three years, OptoDesigner has enabled more than 500 commercial and research design tape-outs.

Synopsys has announced the latest additions and enhancements to OptoDesigner with release 2018.12. Key features in this release include:

· Bidirectional interface with OptSim Circuit: OptoDesigner natively supports OptSim Circuit compound component files. Contents of auto-routed links are saved back, as are changes made in OptoDesigner. Layout updates from OptoDesigner are natively supported at the schematic level in OptSim Circuit and vice versa.

· Heavy parallellization in the Boolean and DRC routines; depending on the number of cores in your machine and the export operations, an up to 10-fold decrease in mask export time can be obtained.

· Built-in support for optical and electrical autorouting in PDK framework.

· Support for Synopsys Common Licensing (SCL).
