Cuomo proposes $30M photonics fund
New York Governor hopes to attract integrated photonics companies to set up manufacturing operations in the greater Rochester area
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has proposed a $30 million fund to help the photonics cluster in the Rochester area.
The money would be used to "attract integrated photonics companies to set up their manufacturing operations in the greater Rochester area," according to the proposal.
The money, which would need legislative approval, is in addition to $250 million the state committed in 2015 for The American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics - a $600 million public-private partnership with the US Department of Defense.
"Thanks to the world renowned AIM Photonics consortium, the Finger Lakes is already a leader in photonics research and development," Cuomo's plan states.
"The additional state funding will leverage this unique asset to bring the businesses and the jobs of tomorrow to the Finger Lakes region."
