PhotonDelta: Why European photonics is undervalued and a fast-track plan of how to change it

News
PhotonDelta have signed up as Platinum Sponsors at the Photonic Integrated Circuits international event, PIC International, which will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 7th & 8th March 2017. PhotonDelta will give a presentation and will also have a booth in the exhibition.

PhotonDelta is building a European-wide "end-to-end ecosystem" of researchers, chip designers, foundries and software developers. Hundreds of photonics companies across the Netherlands and in neighbouring countries are rising up to meet several new high-tech challenges in global society.

"We're building on the heritage of open-collaboration pioneered in the Eindhoven region over fifty years ago. Yet, we understand what needs to change to build a trusted, collaborative network in 2016. A fragmented approach to building the multi-billion European Photonics business is never going to scale fast enough to compete effectively.

We're fully supporting the PIC International conference 2017 because of the unique mix of high-calibre, international expertise the organisers are bringing to Brussels. From our experience, the focus is always on getting things done!

Why European Photonics is undervalued and a fast-track plan of how to change it- Ewit Roos - MD, PhotonDelta

Ewit Roos, MD PhotonDelta, explains. "In March we'll be reporting the progress on three important activities we have initiated."

  • It starts with recognising the need for a professional cooperative. Collaborative networks like JePPIX already play an important role in European photonic research and prototyping. We're extending the active network to include manufacturers, integrators, investors and end users because each have similar goals. They want access to reliable, tested, stable systems that are ready to scale-up. We know active companies benefit from early access to IP, plus a range of specialised services to accelerate time to market. We're convinced a collaborative approach is the path to ensure European photonics quickly gets 10-20 times the funding we see today.
  • We're also developing a series of deep-dive strategy conferences on long-term roadmaps. We want to kick-start international discussions about the optical technologies needed for global society two decades from now. Without clear roadmaps there will be a serious mismatch between the technology society needs and what research and industry can deliver.
  • We're examining ways in which PhotonDelta can play a role in helping companies accelerate in the very important packaging and reliability-engineering phases of development. These are often the most difficult steps for emerging, innovative photonics companies."
  • "We look forward to connecting with friends and new colleagues in Brussels. And we encourage others to support this unique initiative to bring the industry, applied research and government leaders together and grow great ideas into scalable businesses. That time is now!"

    Early bird registration

The 2nd PIC International event brings together the best in class of the integrated photonics industry. Book your place before 30th November 2016 and take advantage of our early bird discounted rate, saving €100.

Places are limited, so book early. We are expecting the 2017 event to be a sell-out, just like the 2016 conference.
