Big win for Acacia

News
Acacia Communications is gaining on reports of a promising contract win with Facebook for its new packet-optical white-box, according to analysts at William Blair.

William Blair analyst Dmitry Netis commented in a note to clients that Facebook announced its plan to enter the optical equipment market, with the industry's first white-box packet-optical transponder for data centre interconnect (DCI) applications, called Voyager. According to the analyst, Voyager will incorporate Acacia's AC400 transponder module (with 400G dual-channel coherent DSP ASIC).

He calls this a "big win for Acacia."

"We believe Facebook's Voyager will become a disruptive force in the optical networking market and represents a major positive for the component and subsystem vendors - specifically Acacia, Broadcom, and Lumentum," Netis said.

The analyst notes Facebook capital expenditures up 76% year-over-year, expected to grow ""substantially" in 2017. "As a result, we expect Acacia's AC400 to ramp up solidly in 2017," he said.

The firm reiterated an Outperform rating on Acacia.
